Memories and Stories My Old People
My grandparents grew up and worked for the stations; Millstream, Kangagie, Tambery, Mount Florance, Mulgu Downs. This painting is of the Fortescue River from where the Rainbow Serpant lives now. Millstream goes up toward and alongside of ranges and other mobs in the Pilbara use this river for guidance and travelling through the Country. All the other rivers that feed into the Fortescue are used for hunting, gathering and teaching while people travel up and downs station to station. The animals in the painting represent and connect us. Sometimes animals communicate somebody coming, good or bad luck or if you’re welcome or not. We also use animals for medicine such as the Emu and Goanna for oil. Animals are also interwoven to our songline. Each of these animals have connection to us and our Lore Country.
